Manu Morlanes is the latest player to speak on Endimoniats, the club's official podcast.
Morlanes graduated from the youth academy of Real Zaragoza and made the leap to Villarreal CF when he was only 13 years old.
He was then loaned out to La Liga teams such as Almería and RCD Mallorca where he established himself as a key player in Javier Aguirre's side and now features regularly under Jagoba Arrasate.
Now, in his appearance on the club's official podcast, hosted by Damián García and Llorenç Diego, Morlanes reflects on his evolution in football, his studies in economics and his special connection with the island.
"I could never have imagined finishing ninth and reaching a cup final, I've been a dad here, so I'll always carry the island within me," said the Morlanes. "Pablo Ortells proposed the project to me. I needed a change of scenery. Everything has exceeded my expectations.
"I like to analyse football from a much broader perspective than what the spectator usually sees. In my day-to-day life, I like to know why things happen and try to find solutions. Football is a game of chess in which moves can decide the future of a match."
Away from football, Morlanes is studying a degree in economics and juggles his course with the demands of the professional game: "I'm doing it by distance learning and I'm going very slowly, when I graduate I'll probably be a few years ahead of the next generation. I haven't stopped studying for a single year, it's a way of escaping and spending time on myself.
"The key has been to never stop; when you stop, it's hard to start again. I try at home to find time to study when I have nothing to do. I have seven subjects left and I hope to have finished them in a few years."
