Match Report: RCD Mallorca 1-1 Bologna

Takuma Asano gets on the scoresheet as we lose 5-6 on penalties

Takuma Asano got our only goal of the game as our pre-season ended with a 1-1 draw with Bologna followed by a 5-6 penalty shootout defeat against Bologna in the annual Trofeu Ciutat de Palma.

Jagoba Arrasate named a starting XI of Leo Román, Mateu Jaume, José Copete, Antonio Raíllo, Johan Mojica, Samu Costa, Sergi Darder, Manu Morlanes, Takuma Asano, Abdón Prats and Cyle Larin.

We couldn’t have wished for a better start as following a number of good spells in possession, a long ball forward put Asano through on goal who made no mistake with a chipped finish.

The visitors levelled in the 25th minute in a game where chances were limited as Castro was able to poke home a cross from close range.

We headed into the break level as Arrasate named a different side for the second half with Dominik Greif, Pablo Maffeo, Martin Valjent, Siebe Van Der Heyden, Toni Lato, Omar Mascarell, Dani Rodríguez, Daniel Luna, Marc Domènech and Vedat Muriqi taking to the pitch.

Domènech had the best chance of the second half when he raced through on goal, but his effort was sent over the bar.

The game headed to penalties as both sides struggled to get sight of goal with a late chance for Antonio Sanchez being one of few highlights.

After a lengthy shootout, the Serie A side were named this year’s Trofeu Ciutat de Palma champions as the tournament returned for the first time since the pandemic.
