Cederic Bakambu scored an injury time winner as our 10-men side fell to a 1-0 defeat against Real Betis.
Jagoba Arrasate opted for Sergi Darder out on the wing while Cyle Larin led the line and Robert Navarro returned to the starting XI.
We had the first chance of the game in the ninth minute when a deep ball into the box was plucked out the air by Larin before Samu Costa tested Adrian on the half volley.
We had our best opportunity of the half at the half-hour mark when Navarro rounded the goalkeeper and with the angle against him, he pulled the ball back for Darder and then Costa to try their luck although their attempts were blocked.
Johan Mojica later volleyed Pablo Maffeo’s deep cross over the bar from close range in what would be the last chance of the first half.
Neither side hit the ground running after the restart as we were only able to register a handful of half-chances at goal in the first 20 minutes of the second half.
Our afternoon was made difficult when a VAR review adjudged Omar Mascarell’s tackle worthy of a straight red card in the 73rd minute.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, we stlll looked to get in front and had a VAR review turn down a penalty shout in injury time.
Substitute Bakambu headed home with just seconds left on the clock as Real Betis snatched a late winner and all three points.
