Hugo Alvarez and Iago Aspas scored either side of half-time respectively as we fell to a 2-0 defeat at Celta Vigo with 10 men following a red card for Antonio Raíllo.
Jagoba Arrasate rotated his side and made eight changes with Javi Llarbes given his first start of the season and Siebe Van Der Heyden was named at left back.
Cyle Larin had our first sight at goal in the seventh minute when he rose highest to meet Javi Llarbes cross, although he was denied by a good save.
The hosts took the lead in the 32nd minute with their first effort at goal when Hugo Alvarez cut inside and found the top corner.
We would continue to trouble Celta Vigo in the air as Raíllo almost levelled with a header.
Larin would have our best chance of the half when he raced onto Dani Rodríguez’s cross and flicked a header towards goal, only to be denied by a good save.
Alvarez continued to look dangerous on the left flank and almost doubled the hosts’ lead when he cut inside again and fired wide.
Our night would go from bad to worse when Raíllo was given his marching orders after a VAR review adjudged him to have handled the ball to prevent a goalscoring opportunity with 15 minutes left on the clock.
Substitute Iago Aspas put the game beyond doubt with the game’s second goal when he fired home from close range in the 83rd minute as we headed back to the island empty handed.
