We are delighted to announce the premiere of our second instalment of the ‘From Paradise’ documentary series as we relive and take you behind the scenes of our epic fight for survival in the 2021/22 season.
All episodes are now available on Amazon’s streaming platform for viewers in Spain.
EPISODE 1
Episode 1 begins with Take Kubo's return to Mallorca. He was unable to avoid relegation the last time he was at the club, but beating the drop is now his and RCD Mallorca's biggest challenge. After five seasons playing between leagues, he is finally looking to consolidate his place in LaLiga, the most prestigious competition in the world.
A first blow to the team comes early in pre-season: a serious injury to captain Antonio Raíllo rules him out shortly after preparations begin. We will document his recovery and suffering from the sidelines.
We also detail the arrival of summer tranasfer Kang In Lee who knew Kubo as a child. We are then hit with another setback as Kubo is injured at the Santiago Bernabeu. We are with him for every step of his recovery, while we also feature Kang In Lee’s return to former club Valencia and look back on the several matches that were decided in the final few minutes.
The episode ends with the triumphant return of Kubo and his goal against Atlético de Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano, the most important goal of his career so far.
EPISODE 2
The second episode starts in Phoenix (Arizona) where we visit one of the owners of RCD Mallorca: Steve Nash. The NBA legend tells us about how the American ownership of the club started and his time with the basketball team The Phoenix Suns. We also welcome Samuel Eto'o back to Son Moix as the club unveiled his mural at the stadium. On the pitch, the side has a run of bad results that bring them dangerously close to the relegation zone.
The club's management then explains its commercial strategy in Japan as we go behind the scenes of our sponsorship agreement with Taica Corporation.
Take Kubo tells us how it feels to be an icon in Japan and his upcoming participation in the World Cup, a tournament which will pit him against the country he has developed and plays in, Spain.
We take a behind-the-scenes look at the transfer market with the arrival of Vedat Muriqi, the new star of LaLiga. Pablo Maffeo, one of the players with more minutes in the squad, later reveals his hidden passion: boxing. We finally chart Muriqi’s rise to fame and Kubo’s last-minute heroics to secure us a dramatic victory.
EPISODE 3
Kosovo sets the scene of Episode 3 as we travel to the country to learn about the tough upbringing of Vedat Muriqi, the latest star at RCD Mallorca.
The striker details how he saw his father die playing football, how he fled the war with his loved ones and what it was like cooking hamburgers in the family business before becoming a footballer.
RCD Mallorca suffers another big loss: Iñigo Ruiz de Galarreta - one of the side’s key players – will miss the rest of the season with an untimely knee injury. We take you inside his ordeal and recovery that coincides with some of the hardest moments for the team.
Poor results lead to the departure of manager Luis García Plaza and the arrival of an experienced coach: Javier Aguirre. The Mexican imprints his style on the side in a bid to fight for survival in the final nine games of the season.
EPISODE 4
The final episode starts with RCD Mallorca's most important match in recent history: Granada. A direct rival in the drop zone, the side’s chances of staying in the league are at stake. The fans back the team from the start but everything that could go wrong, does: RCD Mallorca suffer their worst defeat of the season.
Javier Aguirre takes over and his experience in this type of situation is key. Psychology and mind games begin: "We are not dead.” We share with you never-before-seen images of the pre-match talk at La Cartuja stadium before a difficult and decisive match against Sevilla.
The victory against Rayo Vallecano, with academy product Abdón Prats as the unexpected hero, ensures there is still life in the team. RCD Mallorca’s survival hangs in the balance in Pamplona with Aguirre’s former side the hosts.
It’s all to play for in 90 minutes: survival or relegation.
