Martin Valjent: 'The manager's belief in me is very important'
The defender discusses the importance of confidence having played every minute of the domestic campaign so far
One of only four players in La Liga to have played every minute of the domestic season so far, Martin Valjent says he values the confidence Vicente Moreno gives him.
Despite playing a total of 1,710 minutes across 19 fixtures, the defender has reaffirmed the importance of giving his all for the team.
“The manager believes in me and that is very important,” he told our official podcast, Play Red. “We have a team and a club that I feel very well in and I want to give it my all. The team is good. Mentally it’s not easy seeing yourself at the bottom, but we're calm. We’re in a position that we don’t want to be in but we’re working to get out of it.
With the squad preparing to face Zamora CF in the second round of the Copa del Rey this Saturday, Valjent says it will be important for the side to quickly focus their attention back to La Liga following the trip to Estadio Ruta de la Plata Zamora CF.
"The objective is clear, we've got few points in the last couple of games,” he continued. “There are 19 games to go and we have to face them with the same enthusiasm and spirit that got us here to La Liga."
Following the publication of our ‘A Perfect Plan’ documentary chartering last season’s promotion push, the centre back says reliving the journey has served to provide additional motivation moving forward.
“As one of the guys who had lived through that, seeing the documentary means I can re-live it and these are things that I appreciate a lot,” he said. “You can look at the past in order to continue with motivation for the future. Only then can you achieve the big things.”
