Our Copa del Rey run comes to an end in the quarter finals
Our Copa del Rey campaign comes to an end in the quarter-finals after we fell to a 1-0 loss at Real Sociedad courtesy of a Robert Navarro strike.
Javier Aguirre made a number of changes to his starting XI as we enter a hectic run of fixtures as Dominik Grief started in goal and Tino Kadewere led the forward line.
We could not have wished for a worse start as Navarro found the back of the net in the fifth minute with an unstoppable strike having been teed up by Zubimendi.
Despite the early action, the game seemed to slow in its rhythm as both sides struggled to create any chances of note for the remainder of the first half.
Aguirre made a number of changes and opted for a more offensive system with the introductions of Abdón and Clement Grenier shortly after the restart.
It was the latter who would have our best chance of the game on the hour mark as Grenier fired over the bar from close range following Kang-In Lee’s corner.
Abdón was next to try his luck as we desperately searched for an equaliser, although his effort rolled past the post by a matter of inches.
We were the better side in the second half and had more chances, although we were unable to convert our domination into a leveller as our Copa del Rey run came to an end.
