Two injury time goals saw us frustratingly surrender a hard-fought lead and draw 2-2 with Valencia CF at the Mestalla.
Luis García Plaza made two changes to the side which lost 1-0 to Real Sociedad a week prior. Iddrisu Baba replaced Rodrigo Battaglia in midfield, while Antonio Sánchez was preferred to Amath Ndiaye.
While the game got underway at a frenetic pace with early opportunities for Maxi Gómez, Josep Gayá, Kang-In Lee and Ángel, Jasper Cillessen and Manolo Reina were not called into action throughout the opening exchanges.
Our good start was eventually rewarded in the 31st minute when Kang-In Lee skipped past several challenges to tee up the arriving Ángel in the box with one of the finest assists of the season so far. The forward made no mistake from a few yards out and placed the South Korean’s pull back into the bottom corner.
We doubled our lead five minutes later when Pablo Maffeo found Dani Rodríguez at the near post, and following some good physical work to create an angle, the midfielder’s pull back took a heavy deflection off Diakhaby and rolled into the back of the net as we then headed into the break.
We were down to 10 men shortly after the restart as Kang-In Lee was given his marching orders for a second bookable offence.
With the man advantage, the hosts went on the offensive and came close to pulling a goal back in the 75th minute when Marcos André managed to connect with a cross and rattle the inside the post, but with the ball falling goalwards, Martin Valjent made a heroic goal-line clearance to ensure our two-goal lead remained.
As time ebbed away, Gonçalo Guedes pulled one back in added time when his effort from distance took a deflection off Franco Russo and found the top corner, before Jose Gaya reacted first to a loose ball in the box to level matters with the last kick of the game.
