Javier Aguirre: The victory in Celta Vigo has lifted a weight off our shoulders
The boss looked ahead to our clash with Girona FC
Javier Aguirre says his side are well positioned to put in a good performance against Girona FC this Saturday afternoon.
We head to the Estadi Montilivi looking to build on our first win of the season against Celta Vigo last weekend and the boss believes three points puts us in a good place ahead of our trip to Catalonia.
"I've noticed the atmosphere is a little different," Aguirre told journalists. "It's always better to work with a win. You can always play better, but with a win you are even calmer. It's a matter of growing step by step.
“I think the victory in Vigo has helped us to take a weight off our shoulders. The team is mentally reinforced and we hope to see a better game.
“We have to have the ball more time, because it seems to burn us. We know how to play. That's what I've focused on this week, keeping the ball. We are working on it.
“Girona did good things last year. We couldn't beat them in any game. They play very well and with the arrow up. They have four wins in a row and play very good football. They create many scoring chances.
“They are the revelation team. Good players, good coach and good dynamics.”
Omar Mascarell and Antonio Raíllo will miss out while we wait on a medical report on Jose Copete, while the boss also discussed Vedat Muriqi getting back to scoring form.
"I gave Vedat the benefit of the doubt, as did the fans, for everything he has done since he arrived. He was fundamental to achieving the objectives and he is very well liked. The other day he responded and I hope he continues in that vein of form.”
