CEO of Business Alfonso Díaz and Sporting Director Pablo Ortells analyse the transfer market

The pair held a press conference to discuss our business in the transfer window and club developments

CEO of Business, Alfonso Díaz, and Sporting Director, Pablo Ortells, spoke to journalists at a press conference to analyse our transfer business and update fans on the club activity.

Having made 10 signings in the summer transfer window, Ortells believes the playing squad is strong enough to compete in LaLiga following our promotion.

"We are happy with the outcome of the market,” Ortells told journalists. “It has been a long and busy summer but we are very happy. We have increased the quality of the squad and the competitiveness of the team. I think we have a team to fight day-by-day to stay LaLiga.

"Our signings have come to a serious project, to a competitive club that wants move forwards. If players have wanted to come here, it was because they also see us like this from the outside.

"The last two markets have been very different. We have had to have a lot of caution and operations have taken time. Everything has been focused more on transfers and player exchanges. We are in a difficult period in which we have to be stricter [with finances] - even the bigger clubs haven't made big outlays.”

Díaz updated the media on plans to improve fan experience and Visit Mallorca Estadi, and says the club are working towards getting the stadium back to full capacity in accordance with the local government and health authorities with attendance currently capped at 60%.

"We want to bring the field closer to the stands and we are working on it,” Diaz said. “We have several options on the table and we would like to start next season with the project underway. We have been in talks with the mayor of Palma for more than a year and we are working on a general plan to improve the stadium and fan experience.

“We are in contact with the government to discuss increasing the current maximum capacity of the stadium. Right now, the government can only authorise to increase it up to 50% but we have more days to see if the situation continues to improve and more people can enter. We need our fans and we want to have as many here as possible.

Following LaLiga’s agreement with CVC Capital, Díaz believes the deal will improve the competitiveness of the division and help the club grow in key markets abroad.

"The agreement is beneficial for us and for the league,” he continued. “It is true that we are going to be one of the clubs that receive less money because the last seven years have been taken into account, in which we have been one year out of professional football and have spent most of them in the Segunda División.

“However, we have to show solidarity and think as a group. If LaLiga does well, the clubs will do well. In these complicated times, we have to fight for the value of the league and the television rights to be maintained.

"We are going to be the team with the strongest presence in Asia thanks to signings such as Take Kubo and Kang-in Lee. The priority is what they bring on a sporting level, but they also bring us a lot in the process of making our brand international. Our main objectives are to grow in two major markets: USA and Asia.”
