Takuma Asano’s goal is the difference as we continue our winning form in England
New signing Takuma Asano got the only goal of the game as we continued our winning form in pre-season with a 1-0 victory against Barnsley.
Jagoba Arrasate continued to rotate his side with Pablo Maffeo, David López, José Copete, Toni Lato in defence; Omar Mascarell, Antonio Sánchez and Dani Rodríguez in midfield, and Takuma Asano, Vedat Muriqi and Daniel Luna starting in attack.
Predrag Rajkovic had to be at his best in goal to deny Barnsley from taking an early lead with a reaction save, before Dani Rodríguez fired over the bar from close range during the opening exchanges. We were in front in the 17th minute when Asano raced through on goal and poked home from close range to register his first goal for his new club.
Our joy was short lived as Barnsley were soon awarded a penalty, although Rajkovic was a man in form as he denied the locals to ensure we headed into the break with the lead.
A series of substitutes were made at the break and throughout the second half as Arrasate looked to give his players as many minutes as possible.
Dani Rodríguez again had sight of goal just before the hour mark, but instead of taking aim himself, slipped Luna through one-on-one with the goalkeeper before our Colombian was denied by a good save.
David Lopez also came close with a header among one of the few highlights of the second half as we now face West Brom in our final pre-season game in England.
