Cucho Hernández: ‘We will face FC Barcelona without fear’
The forward spoke to journalists ahead of our first game back in La Liga action against FC Barcelona
Cucho Hernández says he and his team-mates can’t wait for our first competitive fixture in 102 days following an enforced break due to COVID-19.
Sitting in 18th position and one point away from safety in the league table, the striker says preparations for our return have left the team in the best possible condition to fight for survival - starting with a behind closed doors clash with FC Barcelona this Saturday.
“The team is highly motivated and eager to achieve its goal,” he told journalists via a video call press conference. “We’re at the point of a return to the competition in the best shape and that will make a difference. It’s obvious an empty stadium is going to be weird and the absence of our fans will be felt, but we’re all going to have to get used to it.
“Each match is going to be very difficult, but this is a nice match to start with. I personally like these games. It will be difficult to get all three points but by playing well and a little luck, we can win. Against Barcelona we have to be prudent but we have to go out there without fear and play against them man to man.”
Making fourteen appearances and scoring two goals this season following a recovery from hamstring surgery at the start of the campaign, Cucho believes everyone will need to be at their best to hit the ground running and achieve survival.
“On a physical level it will be difficult but we have been preparing for this since the first day of confinement. We’re prepared to carry this rhythm of competition. The important thing is that everyone is available. Everyone will have the opportunity to play and that’s why we’re motivated.
“I’ve been dreaming of scoring for the last two months and 29 days. I hope that the end of this season will come with many goals, assists and especially victories, which is the most important thing to achieve our goal.”
