Dani Rodríguez will remain at the club until June 2026 following his contract extension and discussed his time at the club and what is to come in this exclusive interview with club media:
With this renewal, you will now have eight seasons with the club. How do you feel
I'm just as excited as I was on the first day. It's a slightly different renewal because it's been for matches and it's something you have to work and work hard to get. A bit like with all of them, but this one is a bit more special and the truth is that I'm very happy. Since the first day I repeat it: it is the place where I have enjoyed the most, where I am enjoying the most, where I feel at home and the truth is that I am very happy.
Did you have any doubts that you were going to meet the requirements for automatic renewal?
I was sure, I was sure because I feel very well. Both physically and mentally I am in a great moment and the truth is that I was confident. It is true that you always have that fear that nothing happens to you and that everything goes well and that you can fight to play healthily. That's how it has been and I am very happy.
And you'll be 38 years old. It's amazing, isn't it?
When you arrive, you have the excitement of doing great things in the team you sign with. And when I took the step of signing for Mallorca, the illusion I had was huge, very big. And everything happened so that my history with Mallorca was like a dream come true, but it's true that it's amazing to be with a club for so many years. It is very difficult to see nowadays. And the truth is that both the commitment I have with the club and the club with me is to be appreciated. I'm living a dream and I think that's what makes me hold on to this: that it has cost me so much that it will be very hard for me to give it up.
As the years go by, do you savor every stadium you visit, every game you play, every moment you experience...?
Yes, since the first season I've savored everything more because when you play in the First Division after 30 years and you can enjoy your dream and make it come true, you enjoy it a lot. But yes, as the seasons and years go by, perhaps you enjoy it much more. In the end, competing with the best and enjoying the atmosphere of the First Division is a “gift” of this profession and the truth is that I enjoy it every day. You who share with me many times can see that I am always at my best in training and I love to train and enjoy the day to day and I will continue to do so until I can last
That's more than 250 games with the club. Do you think a lot about continuing to add to your time and success at the club?
The truth is that I don't think about it very often. I think it's something that comes a little bit from work and the luck of being in good health and enjoying many games and good moments. I go a little bit day by day. And more with the passing of the seasons and the years. I think you have to enjoy the day to day and not think much further ahead. I talked about it with Pablo [Ortells] in the last renewal: it's time to think a little more in the day to day and see how you are and go a little by sensations. The feeling I have with myself is very good and I feel very well. I will continue to enjoy every day and the little things.
On a collective level, what goals do you have in mind?
I have been able to enjoy two promotions, a Cup final and now to be fighting to be in a privileged position in which the club has not been for a long time. And it is a maximum illusion. It's true that in the last few games we've been struggling, but in the end all teams have that little period when it's hard to win and that's when we need everyone's support to keep fighting to be there, because it's a great illusion to be able to get into the top six. And on Monday we need everyone's support to break that little bad streak and keep fighting to be in the top six.
