Match Report: RCD Mallorca 1-2 Villarreal

We are unlucky to fall to defeat with a late Ayoze Perez goal proving the difference

A late Ayoze Perez goal in injury time saw us fall to an unfortunate 2-1 defeat against Villarreal.

Jagoba Arrasate started Antonio Sanchez started at right back while academy starlet Marc Domenech was handed his full debut.

We had the opening chance of the game in the tenth minute when Manu Morlanes whipped a shot at goal which was well saved.

The visitors took the lead however in the 27th minute when a Logan Costa header following a well-rehearsed free-kick hit the back of the net.

We had opportunities to level the scoreline prior to the break with a handful of half chances, although we were unable to hit the target as we headed into the dressing room a goal behind.

We thought we were level in the 54th minute when Vedat Muriqi headed home from close range, although VAR proved that our striker was unfortunately offside.

We would get our reward in the 58th minute when Raul Albiol turned Takuma Asano’s cross past his own goalkeeper in an attempt to clear the ball.

Our game would be made harder when we were reduced to 10 men in the 70th minute following a straight red card for Toni Lato.

Ayoze Perez would score the winning goal in injury time as he raced through and found the back of the net to condemn us to defeat.
