Our Spanish Super Cup journey came to an end with a 3-0 defeat to Real Madrid in Saudi Arabia following goals form Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo and an own goal from Martin Valjent.
Jagoba Arrasate selected Cyle Larin and Vedat Muriqi to lead the line as well as Dominik Grief in goal from the matchday squad to have travelled to Jeddah.
Our goalkeeper was called into action early and first had to deny Lucas Vazquez before making another smart stop to deny Rodrygo inside the first five minutes.
Aurélien Tchouaméni tried his luck from distance five minutes later from distance which required another fine save from Grief to get down low and block.
Despite early pressure, we soon settled into our rhythm and chances were few and far between for the remainder of the first half.
The hosts took the lead just after the hour mark when Bellingham finished a counter attack which involved a goalmouth scramble as the midfielder managed to wriggle the ball past various bodies on the touchline.
We pushed to find an equaliser for the remaining 30 minutes but as time ebbed away we became vulnerable at the back as players charged forward.
A clever through ball was unlucky to take a deflection off Valjent in the 90th minute to add a second for Los Blancos, before Rodrygo rounded off the scoring as our time in Saudi Arabia came to an end.
