Joan Sastre: ‘I always feel excited when I see the stadium full after difficult years’
The defender spoke to the assembled press ahead of RCD Mallorca's clash with Athletic Bilbao in La Liga
Joan Sastre says seeing Son Moix full of fans has been the motivating factor behind his performances this season ahead of RCD Mallorca’s hosting of Athletic Bilbao.
The defender has featured in all of RCD Mallorca’s games so far this season and believes the support at the often-crowded stadium has also spurred on his team-mates.
“I get a great deal of motivation when I see the stadium full after what has been a few difficult years,” he told journalists at Son Moix. “The last couple of years have changed that dynamic and we keep getting people to come back and hooked.
“Son Moix has been a fortress these last few years and this year we are trying to continue that with the help of our fans. Between the first and second divisions there are not many differences, just the tempo is higher.”
The 23-year-old is aware of the opponents’ quality this Friday but says the entire squad are keen to get back to winning ways.
“The most difficult thing that came after the loss at the Mestalla was the wait before our next match and now we have the motivation to return to competition and try to get a win this Friday," he continued. "The days that followed allowed us to rest a little bit and digest the last three match days, but also continue working while the new players that have arrived are adapting well.
“Athletic Bilbao are a great team who have been in La Liga for several years, but we have both the character and motivation to win at Son Moix.”
