Luis García Plaza: ‘The team is prepared and motivated for Deportivo Alavés’
The manager previewed our first away game of the season in his pre-match press conference
Luis García Plaza feels his side are ready for their trip to Deportivo Alavés on Saturday afternoon.
We travel to Vitoria for what will be our first away game of the season, although the boss has stressed he will set up his team with the same philosophy regardless of the fixture’s location – starting with an “established LaLiga side” ahead of Matchday 2.
"My idea is to play the same at home and away,” he told journalists at his pre-match press conference. “I don't care where we play. We are going to go into every game to win and that's what we want.
"As of today, we can't compare ourselves with Deportivo Alavés, but we will go out to win. I remember a game last season, in Valdebebas, where Calleja won all the aerial duels against Varane and Ramos. He's a spectacle.”
For our clash with Los Babazorros, we will be defensively depleted with the absence of Joan Sastre, Antonio Raíllo and Jaume Costa, although new forward Fer Niño has been registered in time for the fixture following his loan move to provide further attacking options as the transfer windows edges towards its conclusion.
“Let's hope they recover soon, we have different options at full-back,” he continued. "Fer Niño is a player with a big future and has already shown what he can do. He is not a No.9 in the box.
“He is very good for us and, in addition to that, he is very hungry. We have achieved the minimum number of signings required, but we are open to more. We always have to be ready. If the team can be improved, we will bring them in."
