Luis García Plaza: ‘We have the opportunity to take another step forward’

The boss spoke to the media ahead of our clash against CD Lugo

Luis García Plaza says his side must remain focused on the task at hand ahead of our clash with CD Lugo on Sunday evening.

Hosting a side at the Visit Mallorca Estadi who has gone their last five games without a win, the boss believes Los Albivermellos will be hungrier than ever to correct their poor run of form.

“CD Lugo is in a bad dynamic, but they are a team that I like a lot,” he told journalists via a remote press conference. “They are a team that will force us to play a good match. We have to defend far away from the goal because they dominate the aerial game. They are the highest team in the league. We are facing the last stretch of the competition with almost everyone available and that is great news. We've had two games with a very good feeling.

"We are at the most important moment. We are not thinking about anything other than beating CD Lugo - we are not thinking about anything else. We all have to be very united: players, coaching staff, fans and press. We all have to push in the same direction. Getting promoted is like winning a title. The most beautiful thing is the feeling of making people happy. Of course, we are going to be cautious. If we win, it will be another step forward.”

Having welcomed fans to the Visit Mallorca Estadi for the first time in over a year for the official squad photo, the boss also addressed potential future competition for his job after Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp jokingly suggested he would like to manage on the island one day.

“For me it was a pleasure, it was exciting to see fans in the official team photo. We miss them very much. If we had our fans, it would be difficult for us to lose a point at home. The photo initiative was important for the fans, but above all for us.

"We are in one of the best places to live in Spain. I appreciate the words of a coach like Klopp who is one of the best coaches in Europe and the world. Mallorca is not only a wonderful place to live, it also has a historic club."
