Luis García Plaza: ‘We’re going to Anoeta with the idea to compete and try to win’

The boss gave his thoughts ahead of our trip to Real Sociedad for matchday nine

Luis García Plaza says he is ‘optimistic for the future’ ahead of our trip to Real Sociedad on Saturday evening.

We’re back in action after the international break, and the boss is keen to build on what has been a positive start to the season so far.

"That we have 11 points with all the injury problems we are having, makes me very optimistic for the future,” he told journalists at his pre-match press conference. "We have to demand a little more from ourselves up top, bearing in mind that we generate a lot of scoring chances.

"The defensive statistics are misleading, because we have been poor in two games and good in six others.”

Matchday nine’s hosts have lost just once so far this season and sit level on points with the league leaders in third position, and Plaza believes his side will be facing one of the toughest teams in the division.

"We are going with the idea of winning and competing, even though we know it is going to be very difficult,” he continued. "Real Sociedad is a great team. They are one of the clubs you have to watch, one of the best in Spain. They have been working very well for a long time and now they are reaping the rewards.

“They are Copa del Rey champions and their reserve team is in the Segunda División, and with a lot of homegrown players. They are one of the toughest rivals out there. At home, not only have they not lost, but they haven't conceded a goal. We have to try not to let them dominate us.”

RCD Mallorca will visit Real Sociedad at Anoeta this Saturday at 21:00. You can follow the game on our YouTube channel, Fibwi4 and the club's audio on Movistar and Orange.
