Manolo Reina: “We must win if we want to get out the relegation zone’
The goalkeeper spoke to journalists at his pre-match press conference prior to our clash at SD Eibar
Manolo Reina has assessed our fight for survival ahead of our trip to SD Eibar this Saturday afternoon.
The 34-year-old has been particularly impressive as Vicente Moreno’s first-choice goalkeeper this term, and believes that improving our luck on the road could be the key pulling ourselves out the relegation zone – starting with three points at Ipurua on Matchday 27.
“It’s a very important game,” he told journalists at his pre-match press conference. “After this, 11 games await us where we will also have to play a lot. We have to win away from home if we want to get out of here.
"You have to reach the last four or five games with a chance of staying up to not go down. We don’t calculate how many points we need as it loses you time.”
Reina reached 100 appearances for the club in a 1-0 defeat to Getafe, and although disappointed not add three points, the shot stopper hopes there’s more to come.
“It has hurt us but you have to recover," he added. "We knew that it would be a difficult year. We have to a jump in form away from home if we want to save ourselves.
“One hundred games in every division we have played is a lot, and with two promotions. The day against Deportivo stays with me and I hope that an even better moment will come in the future.”
