Bongonda and Alex Fernández’s first-half goals saw us fall to defeat
Bongonda and Alex Fernández’s first-half goals saw us fall to a 2-0 loss at Cádiz as we reached the halfway point in the season.
The hosts started the stronger side and almost took the lead just four minutes into the fixture when Alvaro Negredo tested Rajkovic.
We did not heed our warning as Bongonda found the back of the net in the 11th minute after Brian and Negredo combined to tee him up.
Pablo Maffeo had out best chance of the first half when he raced in behind in typical fashion and forced Ledesma into a fine save.
Things went from bad to worse in the 36th when a VAR adjudged Martin Valjent to have handled in the box before Fenández held his nerve from the penalty spot to ensure we headed into the dressing room two goals behind.
Javier Aguirre made a number of substitutions and tactical changes at the break as we went on the offensive in an attempt to pull a goal back.
The fresh-legged Tino Kadewere came close but could not get his attempt on target, before a later opportunity forced Ledesma into yet another good save.
Despite our best our best efforts to get back into the game, we were unable to find the back of the net and headed back to Palma empty handed.
