Victor Mollejo’s first-half goal saw us overcome CD Tenerife 0-1 at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López in our first game since securing automatic promotion.
Luis García Plaza made nine changes to his starting XI following last week’s 2-0 victory against AD Alcorcón. Among a much-rotated side included Miquel Parera at the expense of Manolo Reina in goal, while Iddrisu Baba, Iñigo Ruiz de Galarreta, Aleksandar Trajkovski, Aleix Febas, Jordi Mboula, Braian Cufré, Joan Sastre and Mollejo all started.
While we looked the strong side during opening exchanges and continued to move the ball nicely throughout the first half, we were unable to break down the hosts’ resolute defence.
Mollejo would provide a foreshadowing of what was to come around the half-hour mark when he latched onto Sastre’s tee up, although he was denied by Serantes on this occasion.
Serantes was powerless to stop Mollejo 13 minutes later as the winger found drifted away from his marker to head home Trajkovski’s whipped corner to give us the lead heading into the break.
We came close to doubling our advantage upon the restart through Sastre, although it was Parera who was called into action through the following 45 minutes to first deny Álex Muñoz and then Aitor Sanz.
Mboula was unlucky not to have got himself on the scoresheet when a neat switch of play saw him find space for a shot at goal, although Serantes got down well to tip wide and keep the hosts in the game.
The hosts were unable to mount any serious effort to threaten our slender lead as we held onto to ensure we headed back to a jubilant Palma to celebrate our promotion with three points.
