We suffered a disappointing 4-1 defeat against CF Fuenlabrada at the Estadio Fernando Torres on Matchday 31.
Luis García Plaza made four changes to the side which was held to a goalless draw against Real Oviedo last week. Franco Russo and Brian Olivan replaced Martin Valjent and Braian Cufré in defence, while Aleix Febas and Jordi Mboula were included in midfield at the expense of Victor Mollejo and Antonio Sánchez.
We started slowly and didn’t heed the early warning signs as Javier Espinosa and Critsóbal Márquez came close, although it was Óscar Pinchi who struck first in the 13th minute to give the hosts the lead.
We would have to wait until the 21st minute for our first sight at goal as Brian Oliván managed to get a shot on target, before Abdón Prats had our best chance of the first half when he crashed a header against the bar.
Despite building some momentum going forward after the early setback, things went from bad to worse as Pinchi struck again with a composed finish from close range in the 37th minute.
We would head into the break three goals down courtesy of a Randy Nteka penalty after Jordi Mboula was adjudged to have fouled Pinchi in the box on the stroke of half-time.
On the offensive upon the restart, Mboula handed us a lifeline back into the game when fired into the bottom corner after Oliván had teed him up.
However, any hope of mounting a comeback was ended in the 73rd minute when Pathé Ciss headed home from a few yards out to put the game beyond doubt. We will now head back to Palma with an eye for Thursday’s hosting of CD Leganes.
