Match report: Elche 1-1 RCD Mallorca

The points are shared in Alicante despite torrential rain almost postponing the fixture

Vedat Muriqi’s second-half penalty saw us claim a point against Elche at the Martínez Valero de Elche as both sides finished the game with 10 men amid torrential rain which almost postponed the fixture.

Heavy rainfall and an electrical failure delayed kick-off by half an hour, but that didn't stop us coming close to a dream start as Muriqi beat the offside trap and forced Édgar Badía into a close-range save.

We were awarded a penalty in the 10th minute after Antonio Sánchez was fouled in the box, although a fine save by Badía denied Muriqi from the spot.

The hosts got themselves ahead five minutes later when XX Ezequiel Ponce climbed highest to head home a whipped cross.

The first half's tempo slowed down after an early flurry of chances and we headed into the break a goal down.

Elche were reduced to 10 men just before the hour mark as Lucas Boye was given a straight red card for a dangerous challenge on Martin Valjent.

Muriqi was given a chance to redeem himself from the spot on the 70th minute after Badía had fouled in the box and our striker made no mistake from the spot on this occasion.

Our forward was given his marching orders with five minutes left on the clock for an off-the-ball incident.

RCD Mallorca: Rajkovic, Maffeo, Valjent, Raíllo, Copete (Ángel, 63'), Baba (Grenier, 61'), Ruiz de Galarreta (Dani Rodríguez, 90'), Antonio Sánchez (Amath, 61'), Kang-In Lee (Battaglia, 90'), Vedat Muriqi

Goals: Ponce, 1-0 (15'); Muriqi, 1-1 (70')
