Goals from Johan Mojica, Bigas and an own goal from Kang-In Lee see us fall to defeat
We suffered a damaging 3-0 defeat to relegation rivals Elche CF in our fight for survival on Saturday afternoon.
Javier Aguirre continued with his five-man defensive system, while Amath was handed his first start under the new manager at the expense of Kang-In Lee.
The hosts should have taken the lead in the 11th minute when Raul Guti missed the target from a few yards out with the goal at his mercy.
Elche continued to threaten and came close to scoring in the 30th minute, although we would ultimately head into the break a goal down courtesy of Johan Mojica’s driven finish on the stroke of half-time.
Take Kubo and Kang-In Lee were introduced at the break in a bid to trouble Edgar Badía, although we suffered a further setback when Pedro Bigas doubled the hosts’ advantage in the 58th minute by heading past the outstretched Sergio Rico following a whipped free-kick from the left flank.
Elche CF would complete the scoring in the 80th minute when Rico’s save rebounded off Kang-In Lee and rolled into the back of the net.
Vedat Muriqi hit the woodwork late on while Salva Sevilla headed over the bar from a difficult angle with the goal at his mercy, although we were unable to pull a goal back.
