We suffered a frustrating 2-1 defeat to FC Barcelona at Camp Nou as goals either side from Memphis Depay and Sergio Busquets put us to the sword.
Ángel and Fer Niño made a return to the starting XI at the expense of Abdòn and Vedat Muriqi as we continued with a five-man defensive system.
Sergio Rico had to be at his best to deny Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the fifth minute as the forward forced the goalkeeper into a fine save to tip wide his header.
Fer Niño was inches away from giving us the lead in the 19th minute, although the striker was unable to send Brian Oliván’s cross goalwards.
Ronald Araújo thought he had given the hosts the lead three minutes later with a powerful header, but there were few arguments when the offside flag was raised.
The game’s opening goal would come in the 25th minute when Depay raced in behind our defence and fired into the bottom corner.
Despite our best efforts to level matters before the break, we went into half-time a goal down.
FC Barcelona doubled their advantage in the 54th minute when Busquets latched onto a loose ball on the edge of the box and found the bottom corner.
Ferran Torres almost made it three in the 72nd minute when he reacted first to a goalmouth scramble, but the goal was ruled out for offside after it had taken a touch off of Aubameyang.
We pulled a goal back with little over 10 minutes left on the clock when Antonio Raíllo poked home Salva Sevilla’s set-piece.
Despite setting up a tense finale, we were unable to level matters and headed back to the island empty handed.
