Match Report: Rayo Vallecano 3-1 RCD Mallorca

A disappointing evening in the capital sees our unbeaten run of form come to an end

Our unbeaten run of four games came to a frustrating end as we fell to a 3-1 defeat at Rayo Vallecano upon a return from the international break.

Luis García Plaza made three changes to the side which drew 2-2 with Elche two weeks prior as Jaume Costa was replaced by Brian Oliván at left back, Rodrigo Battaglia started in the absence of the suspended Iddrisu Baba and Fer Niño led the line at the expense of Ángel Rodríguez.

The hosts were ahead after just 15 minutes as Sergi Guardiola slipped in behind our defence and found the bottom corner.

Álvaro García doubled their lead four minutes later when he raced through on goal and beat Manolo Reina after a counter attack caught us off guard.

We came to a close to pulling a goal back when Antonio Sánchez latched onto Kang-In Lee’s pass and fired straight at Dimitrievski in the 34th minute.

The provider almost turned goalscorer on the stroke of half time as his long-range effort flashed just wide of the far post.

A poor 10-minute spell in the first half left us with it all to do after the restart as we searched for a way back into the game.

Óscar Trejo added a third from the penalty spot with a paneka in the 63rd minute after Martin Valjent had hauled down Guardiola in the box.

We desperately attempted to pull a goal back as Dani Rodríguez almost caught Dimitrievski off guard with a whipped free-kick from 35-yards out which required a good save to tip over the bar.

Abdón Prats would score his first goal in LaLiga in the 89th minute when he fired home Ángel’s through ball, but it was too little, too late as we fell to a disappointing defeat.
