Karim Benzema’s brace and a goal from Vinicius see us slip to defeat at the Visit Mallorca Estadi
A second half Karim Benzema brace and strike from Vinicius saw us fall to a 3-0 loss against Real Madrid.
Luis García Plaza made two changes to the side that lost 4-3 to Celta Vigo last week as Ángel and Brian Olivan returned to the side at the expense of Jaume Costa and Gio González
Benzema had an early change to open the scoring in the sixth minute after Vinicus had slipped him in behind our defence, although Sergio Rico was quick off his line to tip away.
Five minutes later and it was at the opposite end that Vedat Muriqi snatched at a volley which sailed wide of the far post.
The first half’s best chance would fall to Pablo Maffeo when he reacted first to a loose ball after Ángel had raced through on goal, but the full back’s placed effort struck the wrong side of the post.
Having headed into the break goalless and continuing to test the visitors after the restart, Real Madrid struckin the 56th minute against the run of play when Iddrisu Baba lost possession on the edge of the box and Vinicus fired home.
Things went from bad to worse in the 75th minute as Brian Oliván conceded a penalty when he pushed the Brazilian in the box. Benzema stepped up to the resulting penalty and made no mistake from the spot.
The Frenchman added a third with eight minutes left on the clock when he rose highest to head home Marcelo’s cross as our run of consecutive defeats extended to five losses.
