We ended our winless run of form with a 1-0 victory over UD Levante thanks to Iddrisu Baba’s first goal for the club as the Visit Mallorca Estadi welcomed fans at full capacity for the first time in over a year.
Luis García Plaza made several changes to the side which had lost 3-2 to CA Osasuna the week prior. Manolo Reina returned as captain in place of Dominik Grief, while Franco Russo and Pablo Maffeo made their returns from injury at the expense of Brian Oliván and Joan Sastre.
Goalscoring opportunities were few and far between throughout the exchanges, as neither side were able to create anything more than a handful of half chances.
We had to wait until the 22nd minute before Dani Rodríguez was able to find enough space to test Aitor Fernández, although it was a routine save for the shot stopper.
The break allowed for a brief moment of respite as we regrouped with the scoreline still deadlocked.
The second half was a juxtaposition to the previous 45 minutes as Martin Valjent first tried his luck from distance, before then producing a goal-line clearance at the other end of the pitch to keep matters level.
Kang-in Lee – who had been dangerous throughout the fixture – then managed to wriggle free of his marker and fire at goal, although he was denied by Aitor’s fine save.
Our continued pressure paid off in the 75th minute as Baba climbed highest to head home at the back post to score his first goal for the club and end the club’s run of four games without finding the back of the net.
UD Levante were handed a way back into the match in the 84th minute when a lengthy VAR review adjudged Jordi Mboula to have handled in the area. Morales was handed spot-kick duties, although Reina guessed the right way and made a smart stop to ensure all three points stayed at home.
