Dani Rodríguez and Victor Mollejo’s goals either side of half-time secured a 2-0 win over CD Lugo as we took another step towards securing an automatic promotion spot.
Luis García Plaza made five changes to the side which drew 1-1 at Las Palmas little over a week ago. Antonio Raíllo, Joan Sastre and Brian Oliván all returned in defence at the expense of Franco Russo, Fran Gámez and Braian Cufré, while Jordi Mboula and Abdón Prats started in place of Antonio Sánchez and Álvaro Giménez.
We couldn’t have wished for a better start as Dani Rodríguez opened the scoring inside the first minute when he reacted first in the box to fire home Joan Sastre’s thrown in.
The visitors looked to provide an instant response through Juanpe 11 minutes later, although Manolo Reina was in fine form to make a good save.
A frenetic opening to the game settled into a more controlled tempo which reduced us to nothing more than Sastre’s effort from inside the box which was stopped by Cantero.
CD Lugo weren’t to end the first half without attempting to level matters, although Reina’s quick reflexes prevented Ramos from heading home before the break.
A restart with chances few and far between, we would have to wait until the 62nd minute for another sight at goal as substitute Mollejo had an instant impact when he registered his first goal in red and black having been on the pitch for just over a minute when he made space for himself before finding the bottom corner.
The second goal seemed to kill any hope of CD Lugo making a comeback, and with Los Bermellones in the ascendancy, we controlled the final few minutes of the game to ensure all three points remained at the Visit Mallorca Estadi.
