Match Report: RCD Mallorca 2-6 Granada CF

We suffer a disappointing defeat in our fight for survival

Our fight for survival suffered a disappointing setback as we lost 6-2 to relegation rivals Granda CF at the Visit Mallorca Estadi.

Javier Aguirre opted for a four-man defence as opposed to the five-man system he had previously used, with Abdón and Vedat Muriqi returning to the starting XI at the expense of Fer Niño and Ángel.

We could not have wished for a worse start as the visitors took the lead in the sixth minute courtesy of Luis Suarez reacting first to a loose ball following a corner.

We drew level in the 28th minute when Muriqi teed up Salva Sevilla from 25-yards out found the bottom corner with an unstoppable strike.

Despite our best efforts to get in front with half chances for both sides, we headed into the break level.

Granada CF restored their led less than a minute into the second half when Sergio Escudero raced in behind and found the bottom corner.

Antonio Puertas doubled their lead nine minutes later when he flicked the ball past the outstretched Sergio Rico.

We pulled one back in the 58th minute courtesy of skipper Antonio Raíllo, with the centre back climbing highest to head home and set up a tense finale.

Jorge Molina restored the visitors’ two-goal advantage with just over 20 minutes left on the clock when his strike from distance found the bottom corner.

Molina would turn from goalscorer to provider when he teed up Myrto Uzuni for Granada’s fifth, before Molina completed the scoring when he found space to turn and fire home as we desperately chased a way back into the game.
