Head of fitness Pol Lorente has been impressed with the what he has seen during his first few weeks at the club.
Lorente is a part of the new manager’s Javier Aguirre’s backroom staff, and the trainer discussed how he first met our new boss and the fight for survival.
“I was fortunate to meet Javier in the Egypt," he told club media. "He was looking for a physical trainer and was given my name through various channels, we got to know each other, we talked about everything except football and we saw that we got on.
"We have found a healthy, committed and willing group - that is the most important thing. I try to have a very personal, direct approach with the player and get to know the person you are going to work with. From there, from that personal approach, you can demand a little more from the professional.
"When a train is in motion, it is very difficult to change its journey. We are trying to strengthen the things that were being done well, and in other cases we are putting the seal on what we consider essential for us, or changing things that could be done better. All of this is a slow process, but we are pressed for results, and we need them immediately.
"My wish is to be here as long as possible and for RCD Mallorca to stay in LaLiga.
While Lorente’s career has seen him work all over the world, he has always had an eye on how RCD Mallorca get on.
"Having Toni as a colleague, we always followed RCD Mallorca wherever we were, both in Leganés and in Mexico, and they always talked to us about those little things about Mallorca. And, indeed, one arrives here and sees them. The sports city, the stadium, the anecdotes that the fans tell you. That emotional component exists and you feel at home.”
