Nemanja Maksimovoic’s second-half header proved to be the difference of a tightly-contested fixture as RCD Mallorca fell to a 1-0 loss against Getafe CF at Son Moix.
Vicente Moreno made two changes to his side following Matchday 25’s 3-3 draw at Real Betis, with Lumor replacing the injured Leonardo Koutris while Lago Junior was called upon following a slight niggle to Ante Budimir.
A first half with little leeway for both sides had one of the clearer chances transpire during the opening exchanges, as after eight minutes Jaime Mata’s header forced Manolo Reina into a routine stop.
Fans would have to wait until the 32nd minute for the next effort on goal to present itself, although a corner routine from the training ground ended with Lumor’s wild effort flying high and wide of the target.
Much like the left back’s attempt, Getafe’s Oghenekaro Etebo missed the mark by some distance minutes before the break as the first half concluded with the scoreline deadlocked.
The opening chance following the restart would also fall to Etebo, and while his attempt on this occasion was closer to creeping in at Reina’s far post, the winger’s strike flew wide to the relief of Son Moix.
The visitors took the lead on the 67th minute when Maksimovoic ghosted into the area and headed the ball past Reina from a few yards out.
Getafe CF managed to hold onto their advantage come the final whistle despite offensive substitutions in Abdón Prats and Pablo Chavarría, but a tough loss was made all the more difficult to take as a substitute Salva Sevilla was dealt a second yellow card in the dugout for dissent.
