Martin Valjent, Antonio Sánchez and Manu Morlanes reflect on our defeat to Girona

Find out what the trio had to say about our 2-1 loss

Martin Valjent, Antonio Sánchez and Manu Morlanes analysed where things went wrong during our 2-1 defeat to Girona. Bernardo Espinosa gave the hosts the lead on the stroke of half-time, but we levelled matters with 10 minutes to go through Vedat Muriqi’s penalty. Valentín Castellanos scored the deciding goal 10 minutes later as we slipped to defeat. Find out what the trio had to say below:

Antonio Sánchez

"We managed to level the game which is very difficult away from home, but they took the lead again in the following minutes. It's a hard blow because it's very difficult to equalise. In the end, I think the team was there. We tried. I think the first half was very even and we didn't deserve to go to the break losing. Now we just have to correct the mistakes of the final minutes and the first few minutes of the second half, and go for the next game.

"In the end, the referee is the one who interprets things and he didn't signal anything. I guess there is no foul on Dani Rodríguez.

"We'll face the match against Cádiz with the mentality of getting the three points. To reach that figure that gives us a bit of calm, but first we need to rest a bit and to correct mistakes.

"I'm happy to be playing my 100th game with this shirt. It's true that it's been a complicated second half of the season, but reaching this number gives me a bit of strength to continue and makes me proud to play for my boyhood team."

Manu Morlanes

"We'll have to analyse why the goal was scored. We have the feeling that we had the chance to achieve our objective, but we'll have to wait another week.

"These are unlucky moments. We are disappointed because we had a little point that was an important step to achieve permanence, but well, it couldn't be. There are still games left and I think the team's work is impeccable and we can't reproach them for anything."

Martin Valjent

"We are all annoyed because we conceded in the last minute of the first half and then, at the end of the game, it hurts. The team is doing a very good job and is competing. We are close to our goal and it's slipping away. This can't happen to us anymore. We have to become mentally strong and get the points we need to stay up mathematically.

"Football is all about details. We have to insist and keep working. I'm sure that by doing our job well, the effort will be rewarded to get those points.”
