Martin Valjent, Samu Costa and Jagoba Arrasate analyse our 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid

Find out what our players and the boss had to say about the loss

Find out what Martin Valjent, Samu Costa and Jagoba Arrasate had to say about the the 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid.

Martin Valjent:

On the match: I think it was a very even match; maybe we deserved a bit more. We created a few more chances than them, but that's football: against a Champions League team, you pay for the smallest mistake. We move on and now, with the international break, we'll have a few more days to rest, analyse and come back with a lot of strength.

On what he thought about the match: Against a team like theirs, which closes with a 5-4-1 in the defensive phase, we lacked the chance to try more one on one, to beat them on the flanks, to put more balls into the box. In games like this, one mistake means they counter-attack well, and that's not easy. In the end, it was a detail that got away from us.

On a competitive team: We always compete, we're ambitious, and we came with the confidence that at home we can score in these games. I think we gave our best, as we almost always do, competing; but we lacked those details.

Samu Costa:

On the match: It was an even match; in the end we lost and the goal came very quickly. We have to keep working and maintain the same line of competitiveness to go further. I think we had more shots on goal and more possession. It was very close, but they won. Congratulations, and we have to keep fighting.

On small margins: It was a very tactical game. We knew that the game would be decided by details, and they were lucky enough to take advantage. They had two shots and they took advantage of one.

Jagoba Arrasate:

On the match: A lot of anger, especially seeing how we conceded the goal. I feel that we could have defended that play better, and there was another action that could have changed the game: the possible second yellow for Lenglet, where we were also unlucky. I think we played well, on equal terms; we were not inferior to Atleti. This is about not making mistakes and, if someone makes them, taking advantage of them. They took advantage of a mistake by us; we also had a chance with Abdón after a mistake by them, but it wasn't to be.

On tactics: We attacked with order, because we didn't want them to have transitions, and we were good at that. But of course, when you make such a big mistake, these teams take advantage of it. We didn't make that mistake in the goal.

On next matches: We're disappointed because it's two defeats in a row. We're only a third of the way through the competition and the team is showing what it's capable of. We need to make corrections, encourage each other and face the next block of games, which will also be demanding, to be well and motivated.
