Vázquez: “if we won next game we would take a deep breath”

The manager stresses the equality in the competition and praises the group’s commitment

Fernando Vázquez has attended the press ahead of the game that will see RCD Mallorca and Oviedo meet in LaLiga 123’s day 3 next Sunday and has emphasized that he holds hope to win the game because in his opinión, “the team is improving and there is a a good rapport in the dressing room. I want it to be that way, it is key towards winning and performing. The group is enthusiastic and happy. We are aware that we are going under suffering because our walk will not be an easy one, although I am optimistic”.

RCDM head coach, in this light, takes the game with “the máximum respect to the rival because they have been working really well, but I repeat, I hope to win on Sunday and climb up the table. If we won, the would take a deep breath. The division is very equal – same level – and tactically, there are some very talented coaches out there, all teams give you a hard time at tactical level.”

With regard to Oviedo, “it is one of the 14 or 15 teams in the division whose goal is to get promoted”, he underlined that they have a similar style to Mallorca, “in this game possession will be rather shared that in the two clashes we have seen to date. There will be an interchange of his, just like in boxing and maybe then, we will have even more options to surprise them. I would like that the team was able to control the game having the ball, without leaving spaces for the rival. It is not easy to attack well and keeping a deadlock in defense simultaneously”.

The Galician admitted that he has an outstanding task to make the team pass the ball faster and create more chances “in attack we have to improve a bit. The most important is to score soon, and if we are able to do that, next we should try not to concede.”

Vazquez reiterated that he sees no paradox between his ambition and the Club’s played down message, “I add pressure to myself and I add it to the team. Under pressure players perform better. I want to be promoted and I transmit that wish to the players, who take responsability for it. But we have to remember that it will not be easy, we have to work really hard. Promotion is not a goal, is an attitude. The key is not to give up”.

Lastly and in relation to Colunga’s departure, the manager did not want to evaluate it “because this player does not belong to my squad anymore”. He did say that he was hoping that the forward would be differential this year, “we worked with him as the reference up front – we started on Day 1. My evaluation of him is high but things did not go to plan and wanted out. From the Club we decided to let him go”. In addition, he assured the squad is closed, “the group has a great attitude and I am satisfied with what I have. In December we will see if there is a need to add anyone to the mix”, he concluded.
