Vicente Moreno: ‘Fifteen finals await us’

The manager spoke to journalists at his pre-match press conference ahead of our clash with Deportivo Alavés

Vicente Moreno says his side is fully focused on this Saturday’s hosting of Deportivo Alavés following a week where CEO Maheta Molango left the club.

With Matchday 24’s visitors sitting just four positions ahead of us in the table as we look to pull ourselves out of the drop zone, the manager believes three points remain the priority.

“I’m not the person to judge any decision,” he told journalists at his pre-match press conference. “We have lived through intense and beautiful things, and my words could not be more beautiful, caring and thankful. It’s not a decision that has anything to do with where the team is right now, the message is that we have to dedicate ourselves to working and try to win the game on Saturday.

“Fifteen finals await us, and for that we won’t enter into debates about the importance of each game. Deportivo Alavés gives us the option to improve our situation in the table. Nobody would have been surprised if in Cornellà we had got out of the drop zone with a win. I’m trying to convince the players of the positive things that have happened in each game where we have not had the best result, taking that away from it, and focusing on the result.”

Son Moix is expected to be in full voice to spur on Los Bermellones for their lunchtime kick-off, and Moreno says he is in a better position than most to gauge the threat Asier Garitano’s side pose.

“I like their trainer; we have faced each other before. They have a lot of resources at a tactical level with the quality of players they have, and are also dangerous at a physical level. The fans have been very important up until now, and in every moment they have supported the team, including the return leg of the Play-Off where we achieved our objective.”
