Match Report: Real Betis 1-2 RCD Mallorca

Dani Rodriguez and Valery’s goal see us record back-to-back victories

Dani Rodriguez’s equaliser and Valery’s dramatic late winner saw us beat Real Betis 2-1 away from home to record consecutive victories domestically.

In the absence of Vedat Muriqi following his injury, Cyle Larin started as the sole striker with Sergi Darder, Dani Rodríguez and Robert Navarro playing off of him.

Giovanni Lo Celso gave the hosts the perfect start in the seventh minute when his unstoppable strike from range found the back of the net.

Dani Rodríguez provided an instant response when he latched onto Larin’s knockdown and curled the ball into the top corner less than a minute later to equalise.

Samu Costa had a golden opportunity to give us the lead in the 33rd minute when he found himself alone in the box but was only able to head into the arms of Silva.

There was drama to follow a minute later as Lo Celso was awarded a straight red card, before the VAR overruled the decision and the midfielder was given a caution.

We had the ball in the back of the net before the break when Darder headed home from the close range, but it did not take a VAR review this time to adjudge our midfielder to be offside.

Abde Ezzalzouli was inches away from giving Real Betis the lead after the break when he cut inside and whipped a strike that hit the inside of both posts before bouncing clear.

We had our hearts in our mouths as the clock ticked towards injury time when Aitor Ruibal was alone in the box and was denied by Dominik Grief getting down low and making a fine save.

Valery would be the hero of the night when he ghosted into the back post with one of the last moves of the match to hammer home on the volley and give us an important three points.
