Xisco Campos discussed the importance of education as the first guest speaker to a new group of students taking part in the ‘Tercer Grado’ programme at Centre d’Ensenyament Superior Alberta Giménez.
Alongside his professional commitments and spending time with his family, the club capitan has studied Physical Activity and Sports Science (CAFyD) and says his motivation for higher tuition stems from those around him.
“I do juggle things,” he told students. “I prioritise training and family. On away trips I take the opportunity to study. All of the physical trainers are licensed in CAFyD . At the club, we have grown in human form and infrastructure. They know everything about our bodies and for me that’s why I’m studying it and going for the best marks.”
Boasting a career in football that spans over a decade at the highest level, Xisco Campos reflected upon his decision to leave Gimnástic after six years and return to help his boyhood club achieve back-to-back promotions.
“I spent six years in Tarragona with Gimnástic and my children were born there - that triggered my return to Mallorca,” he said. “Sometimes circumstances don’t go as you want, but thanks to my team-mates and the work we have done. [it happened]. I didn’t even think about it. I’m very grateful to Mallorca and my team-mates.”
Ahead of our first trip to the Nou Camp in six years to face Barcelona, the defender was also asked about the team’s preparations and the prospect of facing Lionel Messi.
“Although it sounds topical, let’s go game by game," he continued. "Now we are doing the scouting, however we already know them well. We will have to do things well so they are not successful. We hope Messi is not on form. We all know what he is going to do, and although we know, he still manages to do. it. The magic formula to stop these players is difficult.”
