Lázaro’s hat-trick saw us fall to defeat at the Power Horse Stadium
Lazaro hit a hat-trick as we suffered a 3-0 loss to UD Almería at the Power Horse Stadium.
Javier Aguirre continued to use Antonio Sanchez at right back as we dealt with various injuries, while Pablo Maffeo filled on the opposite flank of a five-man defence.
We had our best spell of the game during the opening exchanges as Kang-In Lee raced in behind the host’s defence and forced Fernando into a good save.
Lazaro got his first of the match on the 12th minute when he reacted first to a loose ball in the box and poked home from close range.
We would head into the break two goals down as the forward struck again in the 41st minute with an unstoppable effort from the edge of the box.
Lazaro completed his hat-trick after the restart when he flicked home a low cross in the 58th minute.
We thought we had pulled a goal back in the 79th minute, although a VAR review was not required to rule out Amath’s strike as the forward mistimed his rule and was adjudged to be offside.
We tried to get back into the game in the final 10 minutes, but our efforts went unrewarded as the scoreline remained the same.
