Javier Aguirre: We can’t relax, we are going to a really complicated place
The boss looked ahead to our trip to Atletico Madrid
Javier Aguirre believes we cannot let our foot off the pedal ahead of our clash with Atletico Madrid on Wednesday evening.
Having won our previous two fixtures we head to the capital in a rich vein of form, although the boss says we will need to be at our best against his former side.
"We've won two games in a row, but we can't relax because we're going to a very complicated place,” he told journalists in his pre-match press conference. “We are not used to playing every three or four days. Some people are fatigued and we will try to put out a fresh team, because Atlético Madrid demands a lot from you and makes you run a lot.
"Reaching 42 points would give me peace of mind, but this year salvation is going to be tougher. Last year we were saved with 39 points. The 42 points are no guarantee of staying in LaLiga and against Atlético we have the first opportunity of the eight games we have left to surpass that figure. It's a very even league.
"If anyone has known how to squeeze his teams, it is Diego Pablo Simeone. What a way to keep his teams at the same level for 10 years. It is admirable. I was there for three years and they treated me very well. I only have words of thanks.”
