Amath’s 21st minute strike sees us return to winning ways
Amath scored the only goal of the game as we got back to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Celta Vigo.
We were the better side in the first half as our goalscorer gave the hosts an early warning when he latched onto Kang-In Lee’s through ball and fired wide in the 15th minute.
The Senegalese international would not mistake the same mistake again six minutes later when he reacted first to a loose ball in the box from a corner and found the back of the net.
Amath could have had his second before the break when he got onto Pablo Maffeo’s cross, although he could not get his effort on target.
We continued to create after the restart and dominated the majority of the second half, although the hosts found their stride late on and pushed for an equaliser.
Tapia would have the host’s clearest chance in the 83rd minute when he volleyed over the bar from close range, before Hugo Mallo came close with less than a minute left on the clock.
Our defence held firm to secure an important three points as we headed back to the island having ended a run of form which had seen us fail to register a win since February.
