Match Report: RCD Mallorca 0-0 Sevilla

We are held to a goalless draw at home in a tightly contested fixture

Our search for our first league win continues as we were held to a goalless draw against Sevilla at Estadi Mallorca Son Moix.

Jagoba Arrasate made various changes as he looked to keep his side fresh, notably introducing Leo Roman in goal at the expense of Dominik Grief. Pablo Maffeo was also handed a start which saw him reach 100 games for the club.

Vedat Muriqi had the game’s first opportunity when he climbed highest to head a whipped corner goalwards, but his attempt while backpedaling was saved in the 11th minute.

Roman had to be at his best on his first LaLiga start of the season as our academy product denied Dodi Lukebakio’s powerful effort.

Saúl Ñíguez and José Ángel Carmona would later have chances, but Roman did well to block attempts on goal to keep the score level as we headed into the break goalless.

The visitors started the stronger side after the restart with Djibril Sow coming inches away from opening the scoring from close range with an attempt that went wide.

Muriqi was slipped through on goal in the 64th minute but our striker was forced to snatch at his effort as the oncoming Nyland tipped wide his shot.

Takuma Asano was next to try his luck and having done well to make space for a shot, pulled his attempt wide of the near post.

The game would not finish without its drama as with a minute left on the clock, Saul Niguez received his marching orders as Sevilla were reduced to 10 men.

A late chance would fall to our academy starlet Marc Domenech, but the youngster was unable to make contact with a low cross which was flashed across goal as we had to settle for a point.
