Luis García Plaza: ‘We have to be warriors and be ready to work’

The boss spoke to the media in his pre-match press conference ahead of our Copa del Rey opener against CD Guijuelo

Luis García has warned against complacency ahead of our Copa del Rey opener against Segunda B side CD Guijuelo.

Facing the Salamancan outfit for the first time in our history, we travel to the artificial pitch at Estadio Municipal de Guijuelo looking to kickstart our cup campaign against a side in good form.

“We have to be warriors and get ready to work,” he told journalists at his pre-match press conference. “CD Guijuelo think they can eliminate us, just as we would if we had to play against Levante UD, an ex-team of mine.

“If a pass is missed nothing happens but I'm not going to let us not go one hundred percent. In these competitions any failure condemns you and there is no margin for error. CD Guijuelo CD have not lost at home for more than a year, and they will be up for it, but so should we. We have to respect CD Guijuelo as much as possible, as we do every day of the competition."

Having reached the semi-finals of the tournament last year while on loan at CD Mirandes, Luis García Plaza believes Antonio Sánchez can serve as an example to how far teams in the Segunda División can go in the tournament.

"You have to try to pass, go 100% but without mental strain and enjoy the competition. Antonio had a great experience in the Copa del Rey, so why can't we do it without any additional burden?”
