Vicente Moreno: ‘We Will Give Athletic Bilbao War'
The manager spoke to the assembled press about the season so far ahead of RCD Mallorca's hosting of the Basque side
Vicente Moreno has highlighted the importance of turning good performances into points ahead of RCD Mallorca’s return to La Liga football against Athletic Bilbao on Friday.
The international break has given teams a brief respite following a hectic start to the campaign, something the manager has valued following the unfortunate 2-0 defeat to Valencia at the Mestalla.
“It was long,” he told journalists at his pre-match press conference. “When you lose one you want to play right after the next day. Tomorrow we have the opportunity to compete again. We’re lucky to see the rivals that we will later play each week.
“It’s not enough to be better than the opposition and results eventually determine other things. Whether it be a good, regular or bad feeling about a game, the important thing is to win. We will given them a war and we will get more points than we currently have, and continuing on this path, we will always be proud of this team.
Athletic Bilbao will arrive at Son Moix sitting in second place having previously beaten Barcelona on the opening day, but Moreno is aware there is still plenty of games to played throughout the campaign.
“It’s early in the season but they are in a good situation right now in the league. They are an intense team with this type of manager fits the style of play at the club very well. I think Aritz Aduriz is a very good player and it is good to value a player that has a good record, but I hope he takes it easy on Friday evening!
“The numbers that we have achieved over the last two seasons have been abnormal. To continue going like this throughout the year would, I suppose, to be like Barcelona or Real Madrid. I don’t believe that they are in front of us by that much. We have to keep insisting that we are that level and to have that mentality of insisting and insisting again.”
